Prime Minister James Marape has announced the appointment of Gerea Aopi as the new Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited [KPHL] Board Chairman.

Mr. Marape in a statement says that the appointment of Mr. Aopi, is a result of serious corruption allegations against the former Chairman Wapu Sonk by the Australian media.

He said that Mr. Aopi's appointment was done prior to these allegations, but he is confident that Mr. Aopi will now take the lead in investigating these allegations.

Mr. Marape also said that he has personally written to the media organisation who has raised these allegations to make available copies of their findings and investigations, and he has also requested the same from Mr. Sonk as well.

The Prime Minister has also used the opportunity to call on all Papua New Guinean's, who are in charge of State owned entities and organisations, to be weary of their conducts, and live a life within the confines of the law.

He has also urged all Papua New Guinean's to respect Mr. Sonk and allow him to go through the normal process of clearing his name and reputation.
