Five arrested over brutal Karamui double murder

Five prime suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of Junior Samson [21], and Petro Malex [30], of Waya village in the Karamui-Nomane District, Simbu Province.
Simbu Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, confirmed the arrests were made last week by the Kundiawa Police Composite Squad during a month-long operation in the remote Karamui area.
Superintendent Rubiang said the suspects, now in custody at the Kundiawa Police Station, have also disclosed the identities of their accomplices, and police are actively pursuing them.
The killings occurred last month during a domestic dispute in Waya village that escalated into a deadly confrontation, leaving two men dead. The gruesome incident has shocked residents in Waya, Manu, and Wariyo villages.
"The first five suspects are now in the Kundiawa town cell awaiting formal charges. Police are closing in on a few more suspects," Supt. Rubiang said.
He commended Sergeant Gideon Lumbia, the squad commander, and his team for their swift action and successful arrests.
Rubiang also appealed to public servants and local communities to support police efforts on the ground in making arrests and resolving conflicts.
Meanwhile, police have also deployed officers to Meiyo Sorita and Wariyo villages following a recent gun battle that resulted in one fatality. Arrests are expected soon.
The Kundiawa Composite Police Squad will remain stationed in Karamui for the remainder of this month to continue operations.
