SHP police deployed to support Porgera-Paiela by-election

Thirty [30] police officers from Southern Highlands Province [SHP] were deployed to Enga yesterday to support local police in ensuring security during the Porgera-Paiela by-election.
Acting Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent Epense Nili briefed the deployment team prior to their departure from Mendi, urging them to uphold discipline and carry out their duties professionally.
Commander Nili said the team includes both regular members of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and newly recruited police reservists.
The SHP police contingent is expected to travel through Wabag and on to Porgera. Nili also confirmed that additional police support from sister provinces, including Western Highlands, will join to maintain law and order during the polling period.
Polling is scheduled to begin tomorrow, as per the Electoral Commission's official timetable.
