Porgera Paela electorate set for polling on Thursday

Candidates in the Porgera Paela district are calling on the Electoral Commission to ensure adequate funding is made available to transport ballot boxes to remote areas via helicopter.
Candidates shared their views in an election briefing today in Wabag town.
Past experiences with polling in non-designated areas have often resulted in violence, bloodshed, and mass casualties.
Candidates were informed that a total of 67,800 ballot papers will be distributed to 54 boxes in the 4 LLGs of Mulitaka, Porgera Urban, Porgera Rural and Paela Hewa.
A pre-count of the ballot papers is expected today with boxes expected to be transported tomorrow from Wabag in preparation for the polling on Thursday.
The briefing was attended by candidates, supporters, security personnel, other stakeholders and the general public.
Those who led the briefing included Provincial Election Manager Anton Iamau, PPC Chief Superintendent Fred Yakasa, Pogera DA Jery Maku and other officials of the EC.
