Former soldier Mileng Kapli, who allegedly killed his spouse at the Murray Barracks single quarter complex earlier this year, has been given 3 weeks by Magistrate Paul Puri Nii of Waigani Committal Court to prepare his submissions.

Kapli was charged with willful murder, deprivation of liberty, and sexual penetration following the brutal torture and death of his spouse, Lina Numbalihi.

The court heard today that the police have completed their case file, and they are ready to move forward with the case.

In a verbal application, Mileng Kapli requested if the court could allow him to stay at the Boroko holding cell for a day.

He says his stay up at Bomana has isolated him from accessing legal services, and his submissions are to be ready in three week's time, and he needs to stay at a convenient location to speak with his lawyer.

The police prosecutor, Sandra Holland, in response said she will not have a say in moving Kapli from Bomana to Boroko, as she might be implicated if he decides to escape at Boroko.

Magistrate Nii also said it is quite a complicated process to issue a warrant for Kapli to be moved to Boroko and then back to Bomana.

He ordered Kapli to remain at the Bomana Correctional Facility and prepare his submissions for the case to be heard on the 24th of July 2025.
