Hela provincial government and NYDA working to set up youth council

The Hela Provincial Government and the National Youth Development Authority [NYDA] met today in Tari to plan better support for young people in the province.
The meeting focused on setting up new Youth Development Councils in Komo-Hulia and Magarima districts. It also looked at restarting youth councils in Tari-Pori and Koroba-Kopiago, which were first set up in 2023 but are no longer active.
Leaders also discussed forming a Hela Provincial Youth Development Council to guide youth programs across the province.
Hela’s Deputy Provincial Administrator for LLG and District Implementation, Tai Lawe, said the goal is to create proper youth structures at the provincial, district, and LLG levels that are legally recognized.
“This framework will enable development partners, District Development Authorities (DDAs), and the provincial government to engage more effectively in supporting resource mobilization efforts to sustain youth initiatives and programs,” he stated.
Both parties agreed to launch the program later this year, in October, with a joint awareness campaign to be implemented by the NYDA and Hela technical teams in August.
Officers from NYDA present were Deputy Director General Operations Dorcas Mileng, Program Manager Nelson Gideon, and Program and Extension Services Director Carl Gekoban.
