Marape in Fiji for MSG Leader’s Summit

Prime Minister James Marape has arrived in Fiji to attend the Melanesian Spearhead Group [MSG] Leaders’ Summit, which will officially take place on Monday.
The meeting, hosted by Fiji this year, brings together leaders from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and the FLNKS of New Caledonia. They are expected to discuss key issues such as climate change, trade, regional security, and the push for decolonisation in the Pacific.
Before leaving for Suva, Mr Marape said Papua New Guinea remains committed to strong Melanesian cooperation and leadership.
“This summit allows us to unite around our common challenges and speak with a stronger collective voice as a region,” he said.
The MSG was formed in 1986 to strengthen ties among Melanesian countries and has since become an important platform for working together on regional matters.
The prime minister is due to return to Port Moresby on Monday evening. While he is away, Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso is Acting Prime Minister.
