Mass breakout at Kundiawa town police cell

A total of 17 prisoners - 16 males and one female escaped from the Kundiawa town police cell on Tuesday night.
Simbu Police Chief, Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, confirmed that the prisoners walked out through the main door and escaped around 10:00 PM.
He said five of the escapees were murder suspects, including the female prisoner. Others included one detainee charged in connection with drug-related offences, one for assault [GBV related], and several for alcohol-related offences.
A team from the Criminal Investigation Division [CID] has been tasked with investigating the incident to identify those responsible.
“Following completion of the investigation, those involved will be held responsible if there is enough circumstantial evidence on how the prisoners escaped. We will get to the bottom of this and make sure whoever is involved will face the force of law,” Superintendent Rubiang said.
He also urged the public not to harbor any of the escapees and to report any suspicious individuals immediately to the police.
