Papua New Guinea’s Chief Justice, Sir Gibbs Salika, was hospitalized last Friday after suffering from a medical condition yet to be confirmed by doctors.

The incident occurred shortly after his return from an official trip to Mt Hagen.

Medical authorities responded swiftly, arranging a medivac flight to transport him to Australia for specialized medical care and treatment.

The Chief Justice will be on medical leave for an indefinite period to allow for a full recovery under proper medical supervision.

In his absence, Deputy Chief Justice Ambeng Kandakasi has been appointed as Acting Chief Justice and will oversee the operations of the judiciary during this time.

A judiciary spokesperson has assured the public and legal community that all necessary measures are in place to ensure the continued smooth functioning of the courts throughout this period.
