The Eagle Foundation Inc. hosted its inaugural Western Highlands Governor's Charity Ball on Saturday at Sir Mara Haus in Mt. Hagen, raising K410,000 for Mt. Hagen General Hospital.

Nearly 200 guests, including locals and expatriates in formal attire, attended the province’s first-ever charity ball. The event offered an opportunity for networking and strengthening ties within the business community, while focusing on its main goal - funding essential medical services.

Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa, who delivered the keynote address, proudly announced the K410,000 raised will directly support hospital operations.

Rapa thanked sponsors, including local businesses and MPs of the four districts in WHP, for turning up and making it possible.

Eagle Foundation Chairman and founder Garret Leahy thanked Governor Rapa for improving law and order and making Mt. Hagen safer for major events and visitors.

He confirmed that the funds would go towards vital hospital equipment to improve care and restore patient dignity.

"It will be spent on tools that saves lives, reduce suffering, and give dignity to patients and staff alike," Leahy said.

Leahy also acknowledged the Acting CEO of the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority [WHPHA], Jane Holden, for her support, and thanked the foundation’s committee for organizing the event.

Ms Holden confirmed the funds will purchase dental equipment to revive the once-thriving dental clinic that served thousands across the Upper Highlands.

Meanwhile, the Eagle Foundation founded in 2024 aims to improve healthcare and education in Western Highlands Province and beyond.
