A total of 226 probationary police officers will graduate today from the Bomana National Centre of Excellence, signalling the completion of six months of intensive training under the 2023 Recruit Intake Two program.

Among the graduates are 25 female officers and 201 males, all of whom have successfully completed the rigorous program designed to prepare them for active duty across the country.

Preparations at the Bomana Police Training College began early, with staff and recruits starting their day at 5:00 am.

NBC News was on the ground at the parade area, capturing the atmosphere and speaking with the newly appointed Training Commandant, Chief Inspector Silva Sika.

Chief Inspector Sika expressed pride in taking command during such a significant milestone for the constabulary.

“I want to command all our training officers who have taken part one way or the other to mold and shape these young men and women, and now we can deploy them to the various provinces after graduation,” he said.

The graduation parade is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm and conclude by 4:00 pm, with Prime Minister James Marape and other high-ranking dignitaries expected to attend.

The event is also open to the public, offering families and supporters a chance to witness the official passing out ceremony.

This latest batch of recruits will play a crucial role in bolstering police presence and law enforcement efforts across Papua New Guinea.
