Minister tables Bill to support vulnerable groups

Minister for Community, Youth and Religion, Jason Peter, has presented a Bill in parliament to look into challenges faced by the vulnerable and marginalized population across the country.
The Community Development Bill 2025 saw 49 members who voted in favor, while 7 voted against.
Minister Peter says, for decades, the country's development functions have been fragmented, underfunded, and inconsistently implemented, hence the need for this bill.
The bill also calls for the creation of the National Community Development Advisory Committee to coordinate efforts between national, provincial, and local level government, as well as with civil society organizations, churches, and development partners.
This bill ensures all stakeholders work together towards a common goal, avoiding duplication of efforts, and ensuring the efficient use of resources.
MPs say the Bill is too broad
Meantime , several members of parliament have expressed concern about the Community Development Bill 2025 , saying it is too broad.
Sinasina - Yongamulg MP, Kerenga, is among a few who argued that while the bill is intended to advance the welfare of the community, it will encroach upon the functions of the other preexisting agencies of government.
