Kundiawa police yet to arrest suspects involved in dual homicide
Geographical features of Karamui coupled with common challenges with logistics and funding make it tough for the Kundiawa police to investigate and make the arrest of a dual homicide in Karamui recently.
According to a Police report, domestic brawls turned tragic, resulting in the death of two people in the Waiya village of Karamui Local Level Government [LLG].
Wali Yalwai, Karamui LLG manager, said suspects of the murders are still at large.
"Relatives of both victims are on a man hunt in the jungle of Karamui," he said.
He said that without the presence of police personnel, the situation is still tense and is mounting every day.
"Village court magistrates and community leaders are working to restore peace, but can't contain it. We need manpower from the police to help contain the issue. " he said.
Mr. Yalwai said It's been three weeks since the murder and situation on the ground pose a threat to the surrounding communities affecting the movement of women and girls, students, and public servants.
He urged Salt Nomane Karamui [SNK] District Authority and Simbu Provincial Government to send police to Karamui as soon as possible to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang, Provincial Police Commander-Simbu, said the Kundiawa Police composite team of Criminal Investigation Division [CID] and Task Force members are standing by to be deployed whenever the funding is made available.
He said the district and provincial government need to step in and fund the deployment of police to proceed to Karamui and make arrests.
Several attempts made by NBC News to get comments from SNK District were unsuccessful.
