Madang Government signs MOA with Department of Works and Highways

The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement and the official launch of a number of road projects in Madang Province last Friday has paved the way for maintenance works on existing roads and construction of new roads to begin in the province.
Governor Ramsey Pariwa and Secretary for the Department of Works and Highways, Gibson Holemba, penned the MOA at the Provincial Government Headquarters, witnessed by the deputy secretary, Madang's Acting Provincial Administrator, Daniel Aloi, and public servants from the Madang Provincial Administration.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Madang Provincial Government and the Department of Works and Highways.
A total of K24 million has been identified for the various projects.
The Madang Provincial Roads Initiative is divided into three phases. K10 million kina has been allocated for Phase One, which will include the construction of the Umerum- Puata Road, the Aiome- Simbai Road, and the Sogeram- Josephstaal Road. Another K10 million will focus on the Awar- Botbot Road, the Barit- Wankin Road, the Banu- Brahman Road, and the Yagaum Road. Phase Three with an allocation of K4 million will cover the Dimer- Basken Road, the Banab- Balba Road, and the Banana- Abab Road.
Governor Pariwa presented the first cheque of K10 million on Friday to Secretary Holemba.
Mr Holiemba expressed gratitude to the Madang Provincial Government for its commitment and support towards improving road infrastructures in the province.
He assured that the department would start work on the projects as soon as possible.
Mr Pariwa said that for many decades, no attention was given to these important roads in the province, adding the initiative is a significant step towards improving the province's transportation network; which will ultimately benefit the local people and businesses.
Pariwa stressed, "The collaboration between the Madang Provincial Government and the Department of Works and Highways is a demonstration of effective partnership and a shared commitment towards improving infrastructure for the development and prosperity of Madang Province."
