Over 12,000 applications rejected as police recruitment process continues

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary [RPNGC] Recruitment Team is nearing the finishing line of the recruitment drive for the first batch of recruits to undergo police training.
The constabulary in a statement said they are committed to improving the recruitment process and ensuring that all loopholes are tightened, and a fair selection is done, and competent candidates are recruited into the force.
This is to implement the Constabulary’s intent to grow the number of police personnel and building the capacity of the RPNGC,
A total of 18,460 applications were received through the RPNGC’s newly introduced portal system.
According to the statement, there were 18,460 applications received. From the total, 12,308 applications were rejected due to no attachment of required documents, overaged or low grades in English and Mathematics.
Those shortlisted are grouped into two batches.
Shortlisted candidates from Southern and Momase Regions will make the first batch whilst those shortlisted from Highlands and New Guinea Islands Regions will make the second batch.
The recruitment process has six stages.
A candidate will be qualified for the police training once he/she passes all the six stages of the recruitment process.
The stages include Screening and Validation, Testing, Interview, Medical Check, Physical Fitness and Reference Check.

For the first batch, a total of 4014 applicants were shortlisted to be processed through the six stages.
These were applicants from Southern and Momase Regions.
The fair selection system that the RPNGC Recruitment Team is using ensures that the same recruitment process is carried all throughout the country without any specific quota for a province to produce qualified and genuine recruits irrespective of class or gender.
The RPNGC Recruitment team started on the recruitment process with NCD, Central and Gulf at the Bomana Police College and later divided into two teams to run the process in the provinces of Southern and Momase Regions simultaneously.
Out of the 4014 applicants shortlisted, 2105 applicants were from NCD, 184 from Central, 42 from Gulf, 55 from Milne Bay, 95 from Oro, 51 from Western, 93 from Sandaun, 367 from East Sepik, 290 from Madang and 732 from Morobe Province.
After thoroughly processing candidates through the six stages, the Recruitment Team recruited 125 from NCD, 29 from Central, 2 from Gulf, Nill from Milne Bay [all failed the testing stage], 9 from Oro, 15 from Sandaun, 35 from East Sepik and 21 from Madang. So far, a total of 236 has been shortlisted for the first batch.
The Recruitment Teams are on the final leg into the two last provinces which are Western and Morobe provinces.
The total for the first batch will be made known once the team completes shortlisting from these two provinces.
A lot of candidates were eliminated due to no original documents produced during the screening and validation stage, No NID cards, failing of the tests and a good number of candidates didn’t show up at all.
The first batch will be undergoing police training in June 2025.
