Allan Milne has returned to the helm of Air Niugini, reclaiming the position of Chief Executive Officer five years after his initial resignation.

The announcement was made this morning by the State-Owned Airline Board Chairman, Karl Yalo, during a press briefing at Air Niugini Headquarters in Port Moresby.

Addressing the media, Milne outlined the critical operational challenges currently facing the national flag carrier, specifically regarding its aging fleet. He said that the global supply chain for older aircraft types has effectively ceased, making it increasingly difficult to source essential spare parts.

"We're not here to make millions and millions of dollars at the expense of the people," Milne said. "We need to make sure that we fund ourselves, provide dividends back to our shareholder, and provide the service that the people of PNG really need."

The CEO said transition to newer aircraft is the only viable path forward. New planes will ensure a steady supply of parts and higher reliability, which Milne believes is the best way to provide the public with better value for their airfare.
