A candidate contesting the Usino-Bundi District by-election has urged fellow contenders to refrain from engaging in petty politics and personal attacks.

Donald Uguro, son of the late Education Minister and former Usino-Bundi MP Jimmy Uguro, made the appeal during the official launch of his campaign at Usino village, where a large crowd gathered in support.

The younger Uguro emphasized the importance of maintaining respect and integrity throughout the campaign period, discouraging attempts to discredit or misinform voters.

Uguro said he was capable of contesting this by-election, whilst responding to criticism suggesting he was too young for national politics.

He challenged the people decide for a better leader based on their policies and leadership qualities and not on misleading statements.

The Usino-Bundi by-election was triggered by the passing of Jimmy Uguro last year.

A total of 31 candidates are vying for the Usino-Bundi seat, including former Madang governors Peter Yama and Jim Kas, as well as two former Usino-Bundi MPs.
