Mysterious deaths in Obura Wonenara

Another mysterious circumstance has reportedly caused nearly ten deaths, with several others hospitalized, in one of the most remote villages in Eastern Highlands Province.
Initial reports appeared on Facebook, with graphic images showing severely ill people, allegedly dying due to lack of healthcare and negligence by health workers.
The incident occurred in Dungi village, located in the Simbari area of Obura-Wonenara District, one of the most isolated districts in the country.
Local member John Boito, who is also the minister for Agriculture, confirmed the incident when NBC news contacted him.
Minister Boito told NBC News that a medical team is set to be airlifted into the area to investigate the cause of the deaths.
He also forwarded a situational update from the Acting CEO of the Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority to NBC News, stating that the deaths are believed to be caused by a mysterious illness.
The update also indicated that the District Health Manager is already on the ground monitoring the situation.
A quick response has been organized by Minister Boito and the local health authorities, with arrangements made to dispatch a health team to Dungi village for further assessment.
However, Minister Boito informed NBC News this morning that the arranged travel is hampered by bad weather.
Dungi village, due to its remoteness and geography, is only accessible by air transport such as chopper or small planes.
Minister Boita says once the weather in the area improves, the team will be flown to the village to provide medical treatment and investigate the cause of the recent deaths.
