The Teaching Service Commission [TSC] is in Alotau this week, holding talks with the Milne Bay Administration in terms of better collaboration for serving registered teacher members in the province. The talks are an initial start to a Memorandum of Understanding to come in this regard.

The TSC Operations manager Maini Ugaia led the southern region delegation to Alotau for these talks with the administration, he says with their efforts to now have officers stationed on the ground, Milne Bay was the pilot province for an MOU going forward for its 2,900 teachers.

He says their purpose was to inform the province that they've established an office in Milne Bay and would need the support and help to serve its teachers better, a visit they will be doing with all provinces.

They were received by Provincial Administrator Dr Igo Gari and Principal Advisor Education Roma Tuidam who assured them of such a support, given it is all in the best interest of Education in Milne Bay.

The province was delivered a draft of an MOU with at least 25 points of support to make this work, the administration had committed to go over it for input and upon parties reaching an agreement, this MOU will be signed to seal the deal on TSC presence in Milne Bay.

They say with men on the ground, they can better attend to teacher concerns including salary issues, postings, positions and more, alluding also to a bill of almost K9million yet to be paid for teacher admissions for Milne Bay alone.

The Teaching Service Commission is responsible for 70,000 plus teachers for and on behalf of the state and custodian to Teaching positions in Papua New Guinea.
