Oro provincial government restricts alcohol trading

The Oro provincial government has imposed restrictions on alcohol trading in the province, following escalating law and order issues in the province.
In a circular, provincial administrator Trevor Magei stated that this measure was taken to restore public safety, minimise alcohol related violence and disorder, and promote and secure a stable environment for all communities across the province.
Magei said trading of liquor will be from Monday to Thursday, starting at 8am to 4pm.
There will be no trading of liquor on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
He urged all licensed liquor outlets including bottle shops, retail stores, wholesalers and any premises holding a liquor trading license to strictly adhere to the restriction notice.
The provincial administrator further urged licensed hotels, clubs, and pubs to operate strictly within the conditions of their approved liquor permits.
He said any business entity or individual found to breach these trading restrictions will be subject to have their liquor trading license suspended for an indefinite period and immediate termination and revocation of their trading license.
He said the directives will be enforced by the Oro Provincial Law and Order Committee, the Oro police command, and authorised officers under the provincial licensing board.
Magei said all local level governments are instructed to ensure the dissemination and enforcement of this restriction notice or order within their jurisdictions.
