2025 PNG Media Awards

After a thirteen-year absence, the PNG Media Awards made a strong comeback in 2025, celebrating the dedication and achievements of media personnel across the country.
The awards ceremony also coincided with the observance of World Press Freedom Day.
Journalists from the National Broadcasting Corporation and the Post-Courier claimed the majority of awards during the ceremony held last night in Port Moresby.
Though time was limited, the organizing committee, under the leadership of the PNG Media Council, successfully staged the event with support from generous sponsors.
The awards night was well attended at the Stanley Hotel, with representatives from all mainstream media outlets, sponsors, and key stakeholders present.
The Awards were presented in 17 different categories, ranging from Journalist of the year, report of the year, young journalist of the year and others.

The president of the PNG Media Council Neville Choi, said this is a start, and the media fraternity can expect it to be bigger and better next year and onwards.
The NBC and the Post Courier took out most of the awards, with presenter Jerry Tave taking out the Television Presenter of the Year award.
He dedicated the award to all of the hard working staff behind the scenes who make television presentations possible.
Another notable award recognized NBC Bougainville’s innovative use of WhatsApp to circulate news stories and articles.
NBC newsroom leaders accepted the award on behalf of the Bougainville team.
Post Courier journalist Claudia Tally was awarded Young Journalist of the year.

Other awards presented to the Post-Courier were primarily in the online category, with Online Director Matthew Vari noting that digital news is quickly becoming the norm. He added that, despite the growing competition, the key lies in finding innovative ways to capture audience attention.
Many media personnel expressed their satisfaction and gratitude to the Media Council and event organizers for reviving this important occasion, one that acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the country's fourth estate.
The event also marked the celebration of World Media Freedom Day.
