Lone female contesting Motu-Koita election

Former Digicel Foundation Chief Executive Officer and woman candidate Beatrice Mahuru is among six men who have raised their hands to contest the Chairman's seat in the 2025 Motu-Koita Assembly Elections.
Ms Mahuru has been motivated by the Poor Health Indicators, Education outcomes and Poor Economic participation in the Motu Koita areas to contest.
"I want to use my experience and network to be able to create a sustainable difference for our people, we cannot continue to live the way we have. We have already given up so much for Port Moresby.
"The whole country will be turning 50 years this year, but I feel like as people and our development indicators, we will only be celebrating our 5th anniversary," Mahuru said.
Mahuru said its about time a woman who usually looks after the house and raises the family to take the lead to create a change.
"Leadership has no gender, leadership is about creating a world were no one is left behind"
With the term of office anticipated to be a short one, Beatrice does not see this as a way of affecting service delivery.
"I think people use the availability of government funding as a restriction to achieving much, but in my time with Digicel foundation we were able to create change in one year across PNG. Logistical challenges were our greatest challenge but in Motu Koita there is logistical challenge."
She said if Government funding lacks, there is always the donor partners and development agencies who can assist achieve plans that are in place.
One immediate and urgent issue that Ms Mahuru would like to pursue if given the opportunity to lead is to address the issue to water in the Motu Koita Communities.
