Supreme Court holds historic hearing in West Sepik Province
By Waliagai Olewale

The Supreme Court, led by Justice David Cannings, heard over 10 cases today at the Vanimo Court House in West Sepik Province—marking the first time the court has convened in the region.
Ahead of today’s hearings, the PNG Defence Force staged a guard of honour, with public announcements informing the community about the Supreme Court's visit.
Most of the cases reviewed by Justice Cannings were related to murder, with applicants seeking to have decisions made by the National Court reconsidered.
After hearing the cases, Justice Cannings referred the majority cases to a scheduled decision on March 31, 2025, to be made by the Supreme Court in Waigani.
