Madang Governor Ramsey Pariwa is calling on the Ramu Agri- Industries Limited to improve its support to the local people or face closure, during his visit to the Ramu Sugar Township last week.

A formal letter outlining the Madang provincial government's concern about the lack of support for local communities is expected to follow.

“I have verbally notified them that they need to improve; a formal letter will follow so they understand how serious my government is in ensuring that my people fully benefit from projects that are operating on their land,” Mr Pariwa said.

The governor was specifically concerned about the need for improved basic services.

Pariwa emphasised, “There is need for improved basic services such as education and health. Landowners in the Ramu Valley deserve to benefit more from development taking place on their land.

“I do not raise revenue. That is why I am cross that I must raise revenue through these investments. Whatever little money Waigani gives me, I am using now to deliver where I can.” He said.

Governor Pariwa, meanwhile; has also made a similar call on Ramu Nickel, reiterating that he wants the best for the people of Madang from these investments.

Usino/ Bundi District is host to both projects; Ramu Agri- Industries Limited and the Ramu Nickel Project, and the visit marked a significant milestone for the people of Ramu Valley, as they seek greater support and recognition in terms of service delivery and development.

Also, during this visit, Mr. Pariwa presented a K200, 000 to Ramu Valley Vocational School and K300,000 to Ramu Valley Secondary School.
