New Ireland Province farewells Sir J

The casket of the late Sir Julius Chan is making its final run today, on the Boluminski highway.
The last man standing is making his final journey home to his Manmantinut home, in Huris, Namatanai where he will overnight before being laid to rest on Thursday, 6th February.
His motorcade procession is expected to take approximately 6-7 hours, with several stopovers at the Tikana Local Government Chamber, Lakman, Konos, and Namatanai before arriving at his residence.
Upon arrival the New Ireland Provincial Government will hand over late Sir Julius casket to his clan and family.
The night program will include several customary obligations from the various local level governments and the four regions.
Prime Minister James Marape and his state ministers are expected to arrive in Huris, by helicopter on Thursday before Sir Julius funeral service at 10 am and burial in the afternoon.
New Irelanders say goodbye
The people of New Ireland lined the road along the Boluminski highway, waving goodbye to their Governor and one of the country's founding fathers, for the last time.
The road was lined with the PNG and New Ireland flags, with banners of farewell.
About 20 vehicles are in this convoy for the final leg of Sir Julius Chan's journey along his beloved provincial highway.
Family, New Irelanders, the provincial government staff, government representatives, disciplined forces and the media are in this convoy.
The first brief stop over is at Tikana local level government.
