Wabag MP Dr. Lino Tom said appointing competent individuals to key government positions is crucial to achieving stability in Papua New Guinea’s political governance.
He said the bill passed in parliament to amend Section 145 of the Constitution will not give the political stability, if there are no competent people appointed to spearhead key government institutions.
"It’s good that the government aims to amend the Constitution to foster stability in government, but stability can be achieved by placing the right people in the right positions.
“If we continue appointing political cronies instead of qualified individuals, productivity will suffer, and we’ll see instability across all sectors.
“Our prime minister has good intentions, but we must also scrutinize the caliber of people occupying key roles. Their vision, competence, and integrity are vital in maintaining stability and delivering results.
“Stability is not just about passing laws, it’s about having capable leaders who can implement those laws and policies effectively,” Dr. Lino said.
The Wabag MP highlighted that political stability is a vital for attracting more foreign investments, which are critical for the country's economic growth.
