Hela Wigmen hooker Trevor Solu will be looking to secure his spot with the SP Hunters next year after being ruled out for an injury this season.
Joining the 2025 extended squad’s preseason camp, Solu said this year was tough for him after sustaining a posterior cruciate ligament [PCL] injury which prompted him to return to the Digicel Exxon Mobil Cup and complete the season.
“To be honest this season, I struggled with my games after sustaining a PCL injury and had to go through rehab, however returning to the Hunters preseason camp is an opportunity I’m grateful for and willing to make the most of it,” he said.
Solu who made his debut for the Hunters in 2023 appeared in 8 matches, and despite being named in the 30-man squad this season; he was only able to make 1 appearance before sustaining an injury.
He said with fellow Hunters’ teammate Judah Rimbu off to the United Kingdom for a stint with Castleford Tigers in the Super League, there are big shoes to fill.
“Judah was great for the team [Hunters] and PNG Kumuls this year which earned him a great opportunity to play overseas, and he should be proud of his efforts.”
“With him gone now leaves the coaches to find a replacement for the role. For the young players coming in for this role also gives a challenge for me to extra work hard and try to grab that opportunity with both hands.”
Meanwhile, he said it was great to see more young talents introduced into the 2025 preseason camp including Wigmen teammate Murray Connors who has been dominant in the DEM cup.
