PINA Summit relevant to surrounding changes in the Pacific

The Pacific Islands News Association summit theme of charting a resilient future, Navigating Media Resilience: Pacific Media Navigating Press Freedoms, AI and Geopolitical Interests” is very relevant as it highlights critical issues facing not only media but that of the region and communities.
Niue’s Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi when speaking to kick start the plenary sessions for the 7th PINA summit today, says the theme resonates profoundly with current challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the pacific.
He looks forward to the discussions from the summit that should pave the way for a resilient and forward working environment for the media sector.
"Our vision in endorsing Niue as the host of this summit is twofold. To showcase our island's rich culture and heritage and to underscore the significant advancements we have achieved for our people over the past five decades. We have come a long way from the unknown to where we are right today.
"We believe this summit presents a timely opportunity for the Pacific media to witness and celebrate these milestones aligning with the overarching theme of this conference", Prime Minister Tagelagi said.
Today's plenary sessions included one based on the theme, which saw various representatives from each Pacific Island country's media association including others share their challenges and how they are adapting to changes in the media landscape.
The 7th Pacific Islands News Association Summit was officially opened Monday evening by the host, Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi, in the village of Avasele, in the island country of Niue.
The village of Avasele was a sea of Pacific themed outfits donned by media personnel who came across the region for the week-long biannual summit.
In true Niuen style, guests were treated to coconuts and fruit drinks upon arrival.
PINA President Kora Nou who gave the vote of thanks before welcoming PM Tagelagi whose also Minister for Broadcasting congratulated the people and government of Niue for 50 years of self-government.
Mr Nou also commended the small island country for proving critics wrong in hosting this biannual media summit.
