The speaker and clerk just announced that this 6th motion filed by Opposition has met all the requirements as ascertained by the Private Business Committee [PBC], and the opposition’s nominee is Rainbo Paita.

Prime Minister James Marape offered his congratulations to Rainbo Paita for becoming the nominee.

He also appreciates the opposition for getting the forms filled correctly as required by Section 145 of the constitution and the Standing Orders section 130.

"Prime Ministership is not my birth right. It belongs to our people. In a Parliament of equals , MPs will decide on who is best to serve in that office.

"I am here by operation of section 63 invitation of the OLIPAC law to form government because Pangu under my watch returned 39 MPs after 2022 NGE.

"But the constitution allows for VONC after 18 months, and since February this year, our nation has been impeded by those who want to lead or form government.

"So it’s good now that we deal with the VONC so the country and all investors and development partners know on the issue of the national leadership mandate,"Marape said.

Mr Marape said he had the privilege of being the chief servant for 5 years now.

He said it was never an easy five years, but he doesn’t blame anyone.

"I take all blames as the person at the last chain of command.

"And if I continue next Thursday, we will continue on the restorations and reconstructions we have embarked upon since May 30th, 2019," Mr Marape said.

He added that in this constitutional process, only MPs will decide if Rainbo Paita can do better than his government on all challenges the country is facing today and into the future.

Meanwhile Tomorrow [Thursday] the motion will be placed on Parliament notice, and by operation of law, Parliament will adjourn to next Thursday when the motion is then voted upon.
