Papua New Guinea’s second longest bridge officially open in SHP

A 150-meter Wara Yalo Bridge in the Ialibu-Pangia District of Southern Highlands Province will be the second longest bridge after Markham Bridge [0.51km] in the Morobe Province.
The bridge constructed for K11 million under PNG's 'Connect PNG' program was officially opened by Minister for National Works and Highways Solan Mirisim on behalf of Prime Minister James Marape who was out on other national duties.
Also, witnesses to officiate the opening were Attorney General Pila Niningi, Defense Minister Dr. Billy Joseph, Commerce and Industry Minister Win Daki, and local member for Kagua/Erave Maino Pano.
Minister Mirisim said the bridge will connect Kagua and Erave and enhance economic growth after 70- 80 years of missing links.

"Today [Friday]marks a milestone as you will tap into economic activities to improve the livelihood.
"Though 40 years concept is there to connect PNG through roads and bridges, but it takes time and depends on the National Governments priority.
"I urge you all not to take advantage of the bridge to transport illegal products but venture into business activities," Mirisim said.
He urged the people to leave Waigani politics in Port Moresby and concentrate on economic activities.
