West New Britain experiences surge in tuberculosis

West New Britain Provincial Member, Sasindran Muthuvel is calling for a medical team from the National Department of Health to be immediately dispatched to the province to investigate tuberculosis [TB] cases.

He is urging Health Minister, Dr Lino Tom to facilitate the request.

In a media statement Mr. Muthuvel said, the Provincial Government is working closely with West New Britain Provincial Health Authority to ensure that necessary steps are taken to respond to the surge in TB cases.

He is also appealing to NDoH and donor partners to consider the province’s need for TB medicines as health facilities are in dire need of supplies.

Mr Muthuvel added that the province will be conducting a provincial awareness campaign aimed at informing its people about TB, its causes, signs and the preventive measures and appealed to people in the province to exercise caution.
