Isbister is new High Commissioner
A new Australian High Commissioner, has been sent to Papua New Guinea, following the completion of Ewen McDonald’s tenure, as Australia’s representative to PNG.
The Australian High Commission in a statement says, Jamie Isbister has been appointed as PNG’s High Commissioner designate, and he will remain as such, until he presents his credentials to the Governor General of PNG, to assume his official role.
The High Commission says that Mr. Isbister’s appointment is important, because it comes during a period of close ties between the two countries, which is strengthened by the Pukpuk Alliance, bilateral partnership.
It also says that Mr. Isbister brings with him more than 30 years of experience in foreign, humanitarian, and development policy, and he was also the lead negotiator, with the Australian Rugby League Commission, regarding the PNG Chief’s entry into the NRL.
Meanwhile, Mr. Isbister said that he is honoured to be appointed to the post, because his very first memory of life was of Port Moresby, where his father was working as a doctor, at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
