CDF Cup 26 kicks off

CDF Cup kicks off today at Murray Barracks in Port Moresby *(Supplied)*

The 2026 PNGDF Commanders Cup kicked off day one of matches today (Saturday 19th September) at the Murray Barracks Oval in Port Moresby.

All ten units assembled at its Headquarters for the two weeks of competition.

The competition is drawn in two pools.

Pool 1 consist of 2RPIR Muruks from Moem, Goldie Warriors, defending Champions, Igam 1134 Crocs and the Long Range Reconnaissance Unit Troopers.

Tournament hosts, the Headquarter Chiefs are drawn in Pool 2, against tournament favorites, Basilisk Marlins, 1RPIR Diggers from Taurama, Air Transports Wing Eagles and the Force Support Battalion Tigers.

In the opening match today, the Basilisk Marlins edge out hosts Headquarter Chiefs 18-13 while the second match saw the Long Range Reconnaissance Unit Troopers up against the Lombrum Sharks.

A try from the Sharks, forced a 5-all draw at half time, however a penalty in the second half put the Green Shadows up on a good start to the tournament with a win.

Day 2 of the tournament is scheduled for Monday the 21st September.
