Central music, arts and culture festival start in Bereina
The Central Music, Arts and Culture Festival has officially commenced in Bereina, Kairuku district, bringing together musicians, artists, cultural groups and communities from across Central Province.
The three-day festival which commenced yesterday and ends on Sunday, is showcasing the province’s rich cultural heritage through music and traditional performances.
The event is also providing an opportunity for local artists, farmers, small businesses and entrepreneurs to promote their talents, products and services.
Governor for Central Rufina in officially opening the festival said, the event is more than a celebration of music and dance, but an expression of the province’s identity and history.
“This festival is not just music and dance. It is memory. It is identity. It is the drumbeat of our ancestors speaking to us today,” Governor Peter said.
She said the songs, dances, arts and traditions of Central’s diverse communities carry stories and history that must be preserved for future generations..
She said the colours, songs and traditions showcased at the festival are what make Central Province unique.
The Governor also encouraged Central people to remain proud of their cultural identity and use it to create opportunities for the province.
She said the festival demonstrates the potential of cultural and adventure tourism, with Central Province’s diverse cultures, coastline, rivers, forests and highlands offering experiences for visitors.
“This is adventure tourism. This is cultural tourism. This is Central province tourism,” she said.
Governor Peter said the festival is the second major cultural festival hosted by her government, following the event held in Kwikila, Rigo District in 2024.
She said such events are intended to unite Central communities, protect the province’s identity and demonstrate the economic potential of local communities.
The festival also forms part of the province’s broader effort to promote its cultural heritage while creating opportunities for local businesses and the creative sector.
Governor Peter urged the people of Central to carry their heritage forward and pass it on to their children.
“We will stay united, proud and strong. We will carry the heritage of our ancestors and hand it to our children unbroken,” she said.
The Central Music, Arts and Culture Festival continues in Bereina throughout the weekend, with cultural performances, music, arts and community activities.
