Jiwaka bids to house police command
The Jiwaka provincial government has made a formal request to host the headquarters of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary’s Highlands Eastern End Command [HEEC] in the province.
The command oversees police operations across Chimbu, Jiwaka, and Western Highlands provinces.
While the command's head office is currently situated in neighboring Mount Hagen, Jiwaka Governor Simon Kaiwi and his administration are pushing for a relocation, citing Jiwaka’s central geographic position as ideal for operations cutting across both the eastern and western corridors of the division.
Governor Kaiwi has committed to funding a new office complex to house the command, along with a dedicated support vehicle fleet to support the proposed move.
The newly appointed Assistant Police Commissioner, Clement Dalla, welcomed the provincial government's commitment and indicated his willingness to work closely with the governor to facilitate the relocation.
Jiwaka Provincial Administrator Rick Kogen also pledged his administration's full support for the initiative, stating that construction of the new headquarters should be completed within this year.
Kogen said every province requires a robust policing base, commending governor Kaiwi's ongoing efforts to build law and order capacity at the Minj police station.
"Police personnel will reside at Minj and serve their calling in all the districts in Jiwaka," he said.
