Unitech opens K23 million female dormitory; named in honor of Dame Jean Kekedo
Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso says the the name given to the new female 100-Bed Residential Hall at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology is a fitting tribute to a living example for aspiring women intellectuals throughout the country.
Speaking at the opening of the K23 million facility last week, Rosso said naming the building Dame Jean Kekedo Residential Hall acknowledges her dedication of more than five decades of service to PNG, across public administration, governance, diplomacy and education.
"It is a fitting recognition of her lifelong contribution to nation building and leadership, particularly in advancing opportunities for women," he said.
The Lae MP said the building also reflects a strong and enduring partnership between Papua New Guinea and Australia which has intertwined them in the past and will continue to do so into the future.
Rosso explained that through the intensive fund, Australia has supported more than 90 small scale infrastructure projects throughout the country.
"The Incentive Fund continues to invest in projects and improve education, health and community infrastructures. This partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to improving lives through practical targeted development support."
