UNRE Oro campus observes World Environment Day

Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment Oro campus today observed world environment day.

With the theme inspired by nature, For Climate, For our future.

Speaking at the event acting director for UNRE ORO CAMPUS, Dr Kundo Hundang said 2026 Environment Day theme highlights the importance of learning from nature, drawing inspiration from natural systems and implementing climate solutions that secure a sustainable future.

Hundang highlighted that PNG UNREs core mission is environment stewardship, and through their academic faculties research programs, extension services, and community engagement activities, they contribute to sustainable development across PNG.

Environment stewardship requires more than knowledge it requires commitment and action.

The global campaign message calls for urgent action and forcus heavily on climate change action

World Environment Day is one of the significant platforms for environmental awareness and action. It reminds us that the health of our environment is directly connected to the health of communities, economics, and future generations.

Meantime UNRE oro campus staff and students participated in an awareness program in popondetta town and later planted trees to mark the world environment day.
