Ramu Agri urged to improve support for local communities
Madang Governor Ramsey Pariwa has made a serious call on Ramu Agri-Industries Limited to improve support to the local people or face closure.
Upon his visit to the township recently, Pariwa said a formal letter outlining his government’s concern on the company’s lack of support to the local communities will follow forthwith.
“There is need for improved basic services such as education and health. Landowners in the Ramu Valley deserve to benefit more from development taking place on their land," he said. “If it means we have to shut down Ramu Agri tomorrow, we will shut it down."
The governor also made a similar call on Ramu Nickel, reiterating that he wants the best for the people of Madang from these investments.
Usino-Bundi District is host to both projects; Ramu Agri-Industries Limited and the Ramu Nickel Project, and the visit marked a significant milestone for the people of Ramu Valley, as they seek greater support and recognition in terms of service delivery and development.
Pariwa presented a K200,000 to Ramu Valley Vocational School and K300,000 to Ramu Valley Secondary School, during the visit.
