The Independent Consumer and Competition Commission [ICCC] has signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] with the Gulf Provincial Administration to improve consumer protection services in the province.

The agreement was signed today to allow Business Development Officers (BDOs) in Gulf Province to work as ICCC agents.

ICCC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Roy Daggy said the partnership will help strengthen ICCC services at the provincial level.

Mr Daggy said the ICCC will work closely with the Gulf Provincial Administration to establish and support the new ICCC agents.

A team from the ICCC Consumer Protection Division arrived in the province earlier this week and carried out training and public awareness for Business Development Officers over two days.

Mr Daggy said the ICCC’s main role is to protect consumers and make sure businesses operate fairly.

Under the agreement, the officers will help receive and report consumer complaints, monitor PMV and taxi fares, and check the prices of declared goods and services.

Gulf Province is now the third province in the Southern Region to sign an agreement with the ICCC, following Western and Milne Bay provinces.
