Johnston signs one year deal with Chiefs

The PNG Chiefs today officially announced the signing of South Sydney Rabbitohs winger and PNG Kumul Alex Johnston.

Following ongoing discussions with NRL's all time top try scorer, a one year deal was signed with Johnston set to join the Chiefs after his contract with Souths ends at the end of 2027.

Chammas described the signing of Johnston as another milestone for the PNG Franchise.

"Historical moment here to announce the signing of Alex Johnston as the second player to sign with us for the inaugural 2028 season, " Chammas said.

Chammas also said the signing of both Luai and Johnston signifies they mean business with more players to be announced in the coming months before November 1st.

"This team is heading towards special things and hopefully over the next weeks to months, we will announce some more players" Chammas added.

PNG Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson also welcomed the signing of Johnston saying they are looking forward to welcome him in 2028.

She also thanked Souths Sydney Rabbitohs for allowing the Chiefs for having negotiations with Johnston while he continues to play with Souths.

PNG Chiefs CEO Lorna McPherson also presented a bilum to the wife of Willie Peters who is in Port Moresby visited the PNG Chiefs residential area and other playing facilities.
