ESPHA Launches Phase 2 of Immunization & Systems Strengthening Program

East Sepik Provincial Health Authority [ESPHA] has successfully launched the second phase of a major health investment that will drive equitable health access and better health outcomes for mothers and children.

The Accelerated Immunization and Health System Strengthening Program – Phase 2 [AIHSS2] is aimed at increasing immunization coverage and strengthening health systems across the province.

The program, a multi-partner investment, reflects the strong confidence of international partners.

Following a successful completion of Phase 1, Program Lead Dr. Theresa Kearns says ESPHA has made a significant improvement on immunization coverage since 2023. This has left a strong impression on donors.
The current Phase will be rolled out till December 2027 at a cost of K2.96 million.

Chairman to ESPHA Pastor Max Manimbi told the staff that it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure that every toea is translated into tangible developments for the people.

Speaking during the launch ESPHA CEO Matthew Kaluvia encouraged his staff to comply to policies and deliver this program. ” Compliance boosts the confidence of our development partners” he said.

The partners for this program include the Abt Associates [PATH Program], Australian Government [DFAT], New Zealand Government [MFAT], and Gavi the Vaccine Alliance.

ESPHA Now a Direct Recipient of Donor Funding

Meanwhile East Sepik Provincial Health Authority [ESPHA] is finally recognized as a direct recipient of donor funding, marking a significant milestone in provincial healthcare delivery.

PHA staff and representatives from development partners gathered at Wewak’s Village Inn to celebrate this occasion today.

It was a momentous occasion for all the hardworking staff of East Sepik PHA to hear from a development partner that they are now qualified to receive funds directly from donors.

A representative from the New Zealand Government Meg Williams was there to celebrate with them. She conveyed a congratulatory message and apologies from New Zealand High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Her Excellency Georgina Roberts.

Williams acknowledged ESPHA’s strong leadership and good governance that qualifies them to become a direct recipient.
Sharing similar sentiments, East Sepik Governor Allan Bird applauded everyone for their dedication to bringing the PHA to this level.

Governor Bird encouraged every staff member to fight corruption at their level and set new standards for the PHA.
