Lands Department hands over lease title for new Huon district HQ

The Department of Lands and Physical Planning [DLPP] has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting district development across the country following the issuance of a state lease title to the Huon Gulf District Development Authority [HGDDA].

The land title for Portion 429, located along the 9 Mile–Bulolo Highway outside Lae city in Morobe, was officially presented to Huon Gulf MP and Minister for Community Development and Religion, Jason Peter. Peter accepted the title on behalf of the HGDDA and the people of Huon Gulf.

The allocated land will host the new Huon Gulf District Headquarters, an infrastructure project intended to boost administrative capacity and open up further development opportunities in the electorate.

DLPP Secretary Benjamin Samson said securing land titles for government institutions is vital for establishing long-term planning, investment, and public service delivery.

"The Department of Lands and Physical Planning is committed to supporting districts throughout the country by facilitating access to land and ensuring that development projects are built on a solid legal foundation," Samson said.

He said legal land ownership is necessary for districts to secure project funding and build essential infrastructure for local communities.

HGDDA representative and former Morobe Provincial Administrator Kemas Tomala expressed gratitude to the DLPP, stating that securing the title is an important step towards economic growth of the district and Morobe.

Samson assured that the department will continue collaborating with national, provincial, and district authorities to supply land for Papua New Guinea's socio-economic development agenda
