He had to see it to appreciate the destruction the islands and parts of mainland Milne Bay had suffered at the hands of Tropical Cyclone Maila.

After his trip to the islands on Saturday and Sunday, he returned to Alotau to meet the Australian Head of Mission, who was with his team at Gurney with more relief supplies for Milne Bay.

Australia and New Zealand have been quick to respond to the plight of provinces affected by Cyclone Maila.

Australian High Commissioner, Ewen McDonald, was speaking in Alotau.
