Military lockdown: PNGDF imposes nationwide close camp
The Chief of Defence Force has issued a Close Camp order for all PNGDF units and military establishments nationwide following the recent unrest staged by soldiers in Port Moresby last night.
Chief of Defence Rear admiral Philip Polewara's directive takes effect immediately and will last for one month.
Directive No. 7 of 2026 enforces strict security and personnel controls to maintain stability during the recruitment controversy.
Under the directive, movement in and out of barracks is limited, civilian entry is restricted, and military vehicles cannot be used without written authority.
Security at unit armouries and magazines will be increased, with no weapons or ammunition to be issued during the Close Camp period.
Rear Admiral Philip Polewara, warned that any breach will be treated as a serious disciplinary matter and ordered all Unit Commanders to ensure strict compliance.
