Police in the National Capital District have arrested a 29-year-old man on eight charges relating to forgery and online scams.

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Warrick Simatab confirmed the arrest, stating that Nine Mile police acted after a formal complaint of stealing by false pretenses was lodged in March.

The suspect allegedly advertised services online to produce National Identification cards, driver’s licenses, and other documents illegally.

One victim, who paid K1,700 for a driver’s license, was later arrested when police confirmed the license was fake.

Working with the victim, officers tracked down the suspect, leading to his arrest and detention.

The man has been charged with three counts of uttering, three counts of forgery, one count of misappropriation, and one count of false pretenses.

He is currently detained at Boroko Police Station and will appear in court once his documents are finalized.

Superintendent Simatab commended the Nine Mile police team for their coordinated work, saying:

“I am happy with the officers who dealt with the case that led to the apprehension of the man who would have scammed many others in the future. My warning to all is that if you are doing this, you must stop.” Said the Metropolitan Superintendent.
