The push for the introduction of two years of compulsory military service as a national program aimed at transforming the mindset and attitudes of the next generation of citizens must continue, says Captain James Pima.

Captain Pima, owner of Heli Solutions Ltd and former PNGDF pilot said this initiative should begin with Grade 12 school leavers, who would be required to serve the nation through military service for two years. He proposes that this service be recognized as ‘sweat equity’, allowing participants to earn credits toward tuition fees at colleges and universities.

“Sweat equity instills the value of hard work in our youth. It is far more sustainable than the vote-grabbing policies of successive governments that rely on free or subsidized education,” Captain Pima stated.

He emphasized that compulsory service would not only strengthen discipline and patriotism but also provide a practical solution to many of the social challenges facing the country. In his view, this program represents the single most transformational change that could reshape the nation’s future.

“Let us do this for the love of our country. We need a change in mindset and attitude. By investing in our children through this program, we will create the change we want to see across all sectors of society. Our children will become the agents of transformation for generations to come,” he urged.

Captain Pima stressed that any government that truly cares about the nation should implement this policy, if not immediately, then in the near future.
