Bunsil high school infrastructure take shape on Siassi island
Construction of Bunsil High School on Siassi Island in Tewae-Siassi is progressing steadily, with major focus placed on the school facilities and staff housing.
The three completed staff houses are expected to help attract and retain teachers on the island, ensuring stable staffing when the school begins full operations.
Recent site assessments and images supplied by Siassi LLG Manager, Scott Emasang show that key education infrastructure is taking shape, marking an important step towards improving access to secondary education for Island communities in Morobe.
Construction is nearing completion on two student dormitories and a multipurpose hall.
These facilities will support boarding students, many of whom come from remote Island communities where daily travel to school is not possible.
Additional double-classroom blocks are scheduled to be built this year to cater for growing student enrolment. Plans are also in place to construct more boarding houses, which will eventually allow the school to accommodate up to 320 students.
Local leaders say the development of Bunsil High School is a major step forward for education in the Tewae-Siassi district, reducing the need for students to travel long distances to attend secondary school on the mainland.
The project is funded by the Tewae-Siassi District Development Authority under the leadership of Tewae-Siassi MP, Kobby Bomareo.
