New underground water system brings boost to services on Bunsil Island
A new underground water supply system is now fully operational at Bunsil, delivering clean water to the local station, primary school, aid post and the newly established high school in Tewae-Siassi District.
Drilling for the system has been completed, with water now drawn from underground reserves. This is a major step forward in improving access to essential services on the island.
The new water supply is expected to meet the daily needs of students, health workers and surrounding communities, supporting both education and health services.
At the same time, Bunsil station is being prepared to become the new sub-district headquarters, with plans also underway to develop it into a growing business centre.
Future development plans for the area include the establishment of additional schools and the upgrade of the existing health facility to improve service delivery for island residents.
A new district complex, valued at K5 million, is also planned for construction at Bunsil. Once completed, the complex will house administrative and operational offices for the Siassi sub-district.
Member for Tewae-Siassi, Kobby Bomareo, has encouraged business people on the island to apply for state land at Bunsil and begin setting up commercial ventures as development progresses.
Dr Bomareo also called on Siassi islanders to take ownership of public assets and ensure they are properly maintained for the benefit of future generations.
