Summit to address safeguarding customary land

A high-level seminar on Customary Land and Human Rights is currently underway in Port Moresby, bringing together key stakeholders to address land-related challenges and advance economic opportunities.

The summit is spearheaded by the Special Parliamentary Committee on Customary Land and Land Reforms in partnership with United Nations.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee and Hiri Koiari MP Keith Iduhu stressed the importance of safeguarding the customary land systems.

Speaking as the guest speaker , Deputy Prime Minister and Lands Minister John Rosso described the summit as timely , adding it comes as the government embarks on major land reform initiatives.

He told participants that the land reform agenda must move beyond theory and pilot projects to drive real economic and social benefits opportunities for customary landowners.

Mr Rosso thanked the organizers and participants for their contributions and is confident the dialogue would help shape stronger land governance frameworks for the future.

The two-day seminar ends tomorrow.
