Police in Western Highlands have officially launched their Christmas and New Year Operations for 2025, aimed at ensuring public safety and security throughout the festive season.

The operation, which also coincides with the ongoing Dei By-Election, was launched on December 16, 2025, at the Kimininga Regional Police Barracks in Mt Hagen during the final parade led by Western Highands Provincial Police Commander, Chief Superintendent John Sagom.

The launch was witnessed by divisional heads, members of the business community in Western Highlands Province, as well as families of police officers, who gathered to show support for the men and women in uniform.

PPC Sagom said the Christmas Operation is focused on providing a safe and secure environment for all citizens as they celebrate Christmas and welcome the New Year.

He said police will intensify operations across the province, particularly within Mt Hagen City and surrounding areas.

As part of the operation, police will conduct regular roadblocks, foot-beat patrols, and increased mobile patrols to deter criminal activities and maintain law and order.

Chief Superintendent Sagom emphasized that public safety must be guaranteed for everyone, including the business community, during this busy festive period when cash flow and movement of people increases.

" We have to provide a safe and secure Christmas and New Year for all citizens. We will conduct roadblocks and other foot beat patrols to make sure that we keep our citizens safe, our business houses safe, so that they can look after all of us."

He further urged his officers to maintain high police visibility at all times, reminding them that their presence is key to ensuring the safety, comfort, and confidence of the public.

PPC Sagom also directed police to strictly enforce the law while maintaining professionalism and discipline throughout the operation.

The Western Highlands Police Christmas Operation 2025 will continue through the festive season and into the New Year, with police appealing to the public to cooperate and work together to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday period for all.
